The Part 46 Annual Refresher Training provides all the annual training required for surface-level sand and gravel mine sites except for any site-specific hazards mines would like to include. This training also includes the Hazardous Communication Standard (HAZCOM) and is designed with interactive teaching methods that are shown to increase information retention and engagement.
This training is required by MSHA to be completed annually by all miners working on active surface-level sand and gravel mine sites.
8 hours of online training is provided in a digital classroom with an experienced MSHA Blue Card certified instructor.

Specifications
- Classes run from 7:15 AM MST to 3:15 PM MST per day. Classes outside these hours may be available upon request at an increased rate.
- Classes, unless otherwise noted, will be in English. All those in attendance will be expected to speak and understand English. Should an individual not understand English they will be removed from

Requirements
Experience
- To take this course, participants must have already taken an MSHA certified new miner training course and received their training certification.
Conduct
- MSHA Safety Services expects and requires all participants to participate in class and hold themselves in a respectful manner. We have ZERO tolerance for offensive behavior, vulgar/foul language, and harassment of any type. If you participate if any of these, you will be kicked out of the training session.
- No form of disruptive behavior will be tolerated in class. The instructor has full discretionary right to remove you from class should they feel you are not actively engaging in training and/or distracting others.
Time
- Classes are typically conducted on weekdays from 7:15AM to 3:45PM Mountain Time (MST) with various short breaks throughout the day.
- Participants are required to arrive on time each day and come back from breaks on time. Failure to follow this requirement can result in dismissal from class or not receiving your training certificates.
Daily
- All participants need to be signed into class by 7:00AM MST with their webcam on. Anyone not in class by 7:15AM will not be permitted in class and will have to reschedule.
Breaks
- Breaks will be scattered throughout the training but typically there will be a 5-minute break every hour.
Participation
- Everyone is expected to give their full attention during class time and to be visible for the instructor to see at all times. Failure to do so may result in begin dismissed from training.
- Cellphones or other devices are not permitted (unless used solely for the class) and should be silenced. You can use them during your break.
- Participants should minimize distractions before the training starts. Set yourself up in a quiet place away from distractions.
- Some classes are up to 3 days in length. Ensure you have things in place to keep yourself free from interruptions during this time (reschedule meetings/phone calls/etc.).
Materials
- All participants will need a computer or smart phone with video camera and microphone capabilities. The classroom is online and you must be visible for the instructor to see.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
- Any cancelation that occurs within less than 24 hours from the start of training may result in no refund.
- No refund will be provided should you be dismissed from class.

I get a 5000-32?
No, this training comes with a complete certificate for those working in Part 46 mines. 5000-23 forms only come from our Part 48 training.
Does MSHA training expire?
In short, yes. To remain compliant, you must take an Annual Refresher training course every year. Annual training lasts until one year from the end of the month you received the training. So, if you received training on June 10, 2023, your MSHA training would expire on June 30, 2024. However, it is best to not delay your annual training to the last minute, since working after your training has expired can result in severe fines, penalties, and even the shutdown of the mine site.
Does this training permit me to work on all surface-level mine sites?
No, Part 46 training only covers sand, gravel, and aggregate material mine sites. If you plan on working on metal or non-metal operations, you will also need Part 48 training to remain in compliance. This online course only covers Part 46 training.
Can I take this class if I’m coming back to the mining industry?
Mining regulations continue to change as new technologies are being used and new safety concerns are being accommodated. For that reason, MSHA requires miners who have gone more than two years without an Annual Refresher course to retake a New Miner Training course if they plan on re-entering the mining industry.
